KMDS nominated for Best Overall Show at the 2018 AIMS Awards ceremony held in the INEC Killarney

posted 26 Jun 2018, 06:40 by Kilcock Musical & Dramatic Society ‎(KMDS)‎

KMDS staged a most enjoyable Sister Act, from 24th to 28th April in St. Josephs Hall, Kilcock.  The production team which guided our 2018 production was Director Art McGauran, Musical Director Mairead McKenna and Choreographer Deirdre Browne.   We had a fantastic time rehearsing and producing "Sister Act"; this was a great production to end our tenure of 48 years at St. Joseph's Hall.

At the recent AIMS nominations (announced in May 2018), KMDS were delighted for Sister Act to be recognised with nominations in three categories:

-              Best Supporting Actress: Helena Begley as Mother Superior

-              Best Actress: Amanda Cunningham as Deloris Van Cartier

-              Spirt of AIMS (Adjudicator’s Special Award): Philippa Alford & Fiona Shirran

The AIMS weekend was held over 15th and 16th June in the INEC in Killarney.  The Awards ceremony, held on Saturday 16th June, was hosted by Radio DJ presenter, Fergal D’Arcy, who is no stranger to the amateur musical scene in Ireland.

The AIMS awards is the only nationwide awards scheme to honour outstanding achievements seen on and off stage in the amateur musical circuit in Ireland.

Our three nominations were wonderfully topped off by a Best Overall Show nomination, announced during the festivities on Friday night.   Such an honour to be recognised alongside the top of the Irish amateur musical scene.

We are delighted to announce our winners on the night were:

-              Helena Begley for Best Supporting Actress

-              Philippa Alford and Fiona Shirran for The Spirit of Aims

And our runners-up were:

-              Amanda Cunningham as Best Actress

-              Best Overall Show

Superb achievements and huge congratulations are extended to both the personal nominees and the cast/crew for a Best Overall Show nomination.   It is testament to the hard work and dedication put into rehearsals to see us in the country’s Top 5!

We would also like to congratulate our neighbouring societies who were nominated and won awards on the night.

We would like to take this opportunity thank all those who helped and contributed to this production and to our society: our members, committee, production teams, set builders, backstage crews and technical teams.  We have a lot of friends who go over and above the call of duty, and without whom we would not be able to continue this glorious pastime.

We look forward to the new season and what the future will bring for KMDS.
